Social media?
First thing in your mind – Facebook.
BUT Facebook was just launched in 2004 and before that we had social networking sites like ‘Friendster’, ‘Myspace’, ‘Second life’ and so on. But why couldn’t they survive the social media platform race…?
On a gist, they should have lacked the proper planning, couldn’t cope with increasing users and their interests or they might have different business models than Facebook has.
Currently, we have Facebook as the dominant player in social networking. Can Facebook have a better alternative? Do users need a different kind of interface, with more unique features? That’s just a question but nothing. What we recently have is, Google+, the social networking platform of Google being shut down, considering API (Application Programming Interface) flaw and low user engagement.
And we have another social networking audio-chat app- Clubhouse.
As mentioned, ‘audio-chat app’, you had a podcast vibe? Your vibes apart, just imagine Bill Gates giving a live speech and you being a part of it via a group through an app. Sounds great? – It should, cause it’s ‘audio-chat’. Hence, Clubhouse facilitates you on being a part of a listening group of people and specific people delivering their content. So, you can have your area of interests and participate in the live listening of what experts of that particular field have views on it. But you must have the invitation from that certain group(room) to participate. Moreover, you can create your own room as well, and create a community yourself.
Now, compatibility?
For the initial phase of development and testing, Clubhouse is only available for iOS, keeping in mind that android users are significantly large than iOS users. However, it will be launched in the android soon.
How different than Podcast?
The people involved in a room; everyone can speak depending on the room creator’s preference. For instance, you have an ongoing room discussion about tech, Bill Gates wants to join it assuming it to be of his kind, enters your room, you as a room creator allow him to speak and everyone out there in the room get facilitated with his saying. And, if everyone in your room leaves it or you delete it, the room is no more. In this sense, the rooms are temporary.
Who gets benefitted by?
Everyone, you can get like-minded people and get to explore yourself too. Similarly, celebrities needing audiences can create a social chain and reach to the audiences and make themselves publicized.
Although it has been launched, there are infrastructures to be maintained and various procedures to be followed for the app so as to cope with the pace of new users, establishing better and unique user interface than the ones’ we have today. And here’s the final question- next dominating social platform…?
